Kaitlyn was sitting in her room, staring at her wall. She had hung all of her brother's drawings up on it, the wall itself was hardly visible, only showing in miniscule places. The pictures were mostly of the forest, which had been the death of her brother, well, more or less led him to his death. If only. The words crossed her mind every time she inhaled. Every time she blinked his face flashed across her mind. She suddenly got up and walked out of her room, and started to walk through the living rooom, and out the door. "Where are you going?" Her step-dad asked. "Out." Kaitlyn replied shortly, not even bothering to look at him.
She slammed the door behind her, knowing she would probably get yelled at for later. But maybe there wouldn't be a later. Kaitlyn walked down the path from her house and into the forest, which was only about a minutes walk from her house. The trees surrounded her, and she didn't even pay attention to where she was going, or anything around her. And she didn't have her phone. She hadn't bothered. She just needed to get out.
Her legs began to go faster, until she was running, her tennis shoes pounding against the dirt. She knew this path all to well. Kate didn't even think as she jumped over hidden roots and skirted aroud thick underbrush. This path haunted her dreams, haunted everything she did. But it felt so right. But she was surprised when she came to the clearing. Her breath came out in ragged gasps. Had she really been running that whole time.
Then she walked into the middle of the clearing and collapsed in the soft, lush, green grash. This was where he had laid...dying in her arms. She held fistfulls of grass as she looked up through the canopy of the trees, into the sky. Her eyes filled with tears and the spilled over, streaking her face, and her eyes became red. Her sobs echoed through the forest, against the trees. Why had she done this to herself?
