We pick up right where Stephanie Meyer left off. Right after Breaking Dawn.
All is well in Forks, Washington. Maybe too well, because after all, there is always the calm before the storm.
Caius comes to Forks and captures Renesmee and Charlie Swan. Sue Clearwater, being Charlie's girlfriend, runs to the Cullens for help, but they already know. Caius wants Bella, Edward, and Alice in exchange for Renesmee. The three agree that the only way to save her is to fight, or give in.
In Volterra however, Aro finds out about Caius' dirty deed. He scolds him severely, but Caius is fed up with being second to Aro. He splits the Volturi, taking the powerful Jane and Alec (and some others) with him. They name their coven the Ascendency and move their capital to the ancient Aztec city of Tenochtitlan, where they wait for the Cullens to rescue Renesmee.
The Cullens decide to fight. They gather every vampire they can contact and meet in the baseball field for a strategy session. Jacob and Sam's packs were also included, and have agreed to side with the Cullens. But when a werewolf from another pack catches the mass meeting of vampires while out on patrol, she runs back home to report to her alpha.
The Alpha of the pack believes that the Cullens are trying to wage a war against the werewolves to drive them out of Washington. He gathers the other werewolf packs to form his army, and is prepared to fight.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Volturi coven tries to restore order in the magical world. But without their twin weapons and half of their guard, it is the perfect time for Stephan and Vladimir to put them out of power. Will they succeed? Or will the Romanian coven be lost forever?
The war begins. To whom are you loyal?
